Marc Jacobs was born in New York City in 1963 and he is an American fashion designer. At the age of 15, Jacobs moved in with his Grandmother in Manhattan. His love for fashion began here, as his grandmother taught him how to knit.
From early teenage years, Jacobs attended the High School of Art and Design during the day, then worked at the clothing boutique Charivari after school. After finishing high school, he earned a spot at Parsons School for Design and at the age of 20, he won Design Student of the Year at his graduation.
That same year, he earned the Perry Ellis Gold Thimble Award. After winning the award, he went on to work for Perry Ellis and won the award for Womenswear Designer of the Year in both 1992 and 1997. After the business was shut down, he began his own business with his business partner Robert Duffy.
In 1997, Jacobs was named the Creative Director of the Louis Vuitton House of Luxury Goods in Paris. Jacobs went into rehab due to his heavy drug use. Jacobs is now the Head Designer for both Marc Jacobs and Marc by Marc Jacob, a mainstream line sold within more than 200 retail stores in 80 countries.
Jacobs has been ranked as one of the '100 most influential people in the world' and 'one of the most powerful gay men in the United States.' In 2010, Jacobs married his partner Lorenzo Martone in St. Barts.
Marc Jacobs is the Creative Director of both Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs although they are very different styles.
